I made a Yelp just to write this review - which is when you know it's bad. I have lived in many apartments over the years, but Gateway has been the worst experience of all of them. In short, believe all of the other bad reviews. You will not be spared or treated any better. From management to the leasing team (back when I first signed my lease), Gateway has been the most unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful apartment rental company I've dealt with. And trust me, I've had some bad other ones too. Looking back, the leasin... read more
Gateway plaza is not luxury rentals! But the rent price it is! Doorman NOT for 24h, only from 8am to 12midnight. After midnight, there is a security guy replacing the doorman. They never ask you where are you going. You must have the fob key to enter to take the elevator. So why we have to pay for doorman? Elevators never work for years, wait to see lines at the lobby area of tenants trying to take the elevator. Always trying to improve this is the excuse. People are upset! Laundry area is on second floor, so imagine a f... read more
I lived at Gateway years ago. Moved in, in 1999, pre-9/11. Loved it there. Had a 29th floor apartment at 375 Southend Avenue, with spectacular views looking south. Management was responsive, friendly, as it should be. Most people who lived at Gateway had been there for years, so there was a strong community feeling. We would often visit one another's apartments, and talk in the hallways. The quality of life there was great. Never had a problem with apartment repairs, elevators, smelly trash rooms, package delivery, or disres... read more
This has to be one of the most poorly managed rental buildings. When I first moved in, I loved the place. Then COVID came and when every other building was dropping rent prices by over 25%, Gateway increased mine by a solid 5%. When I tried to negotiate, they told me my counter had to be higher than my current rate. When I tried to move out and break my lease after resigning...(I found a MUCH nicer building at HALF the cost and more space)... management gave me a tough time with moving out, not allowing me to use the elevato... read more
Moved into my $4200 a month studio apartment today and had the tackiest Andrew Chu declining all of my furniture deliveries (and told Fedex to send them back to sender???) because I was in the shower when Fedex showed up. This guy is the rudest ASSISTANT property manager I had encountered, and I have lived in 10+ luxury apartment buildings in NYC + SF (ie the most expensive housing markets in the country). 'Sorry' or 'please' dont exisit in his vocab, and he talks down to me (ie a client) in the most condescending manners. ... read more
Moving into Gateway was the worst decision we made for our family. We have spent the past year living in an apartment which is constantly filled with pot from our smoking neighbors. Our toddler constantly breathes it in. We were told by management that is our responsibility to call security and report the neighbors every time. It's been 20+ times of calling in now. However, it doesn't do much good when security does not answer the phone, or shows up an hour later after the smell is gone, or says they can't figure out if th... read more
We have had a smoker living next door for 2 years. We have called management and security over 25 times and they have taken no action, despite their policy about no smoking. Additionally management refuses to speak directly with tenants. The management admin always does all of the talking and says the mgmt reps are unavailable. I've never encountered a more incompetent or unwilling to talk mgmt office in my 10 years in NYC. Their behavior is not acceptable.
I have lived at Gateway for 3 years now. I get really frustrated when the concierge does not pick up the phone. There is confusion on deliveries. Granted COVID has increased the volume of deliveries, the management team needs to hire more people. No one wants to chase down packages
I rescind my previous 5 star review-- the management team here is terrible now that Nicholas is gone. Would love to be able to speak to the actual landlord. Vanessa is terrible and should be in no position of managerial responsibilities. Don't live here. Plenty of great spots in nyc with teams that will work with you during tough times and not just nickel and dime you.
