This place deserves zero stars. Do NOT rent here. One bad review may not count, but 400 bad reviews say something about this place. 1. The staff is rude, unhelpful, and will pressure you into anything. First they will lure you in acting nice and helpful. Then, they will not respond to emails or calls about the electric bill, about rent, about repairs in the apartment. 2. They ask that you send your electricity check to a PO Box!!! They don't accept payment for it at the management office. Once it gets checked out, the mana... read more

1) The $3350/month for a 850 sq foot apartment turn into $4000 during the cold and the hot months. The electric heaters/AC units will cost you beyond any of your reasonable expectations. Be prepared for that. My avg electric bill during the cold months was between $500 and $600. ANd I can't turn it off completely while I'm not at home because I have a pet who will freeze to death if I do. I called the management office to find out an "average" bill for an apartment of my size and was completely misled by the answer (no way w... read more

This building is not for people. It's a kennel. Dogs sh-t and piss everywhere. All washing machine smell like mildew. I lived here longer than I care to admit. Leaving Gateway feels like getting out of jail. Management is not flexible.

I wish I could rate it 0 star That is the worse management i've ever seen. They do not care about you, the quality is really really bad. everything is falling apart, the winter is def very very tough, they did and keep on saying they took measures to improve quality and better heat, but all they do is LYING, they ARE LIER. if you talk to them, they will tell you, they did a very strict study and have proof that explains that the heat is heating and keeping you warm. The new heating appliances is the cheapest they probably fo... read more

I've lived in this advertised "luxury" complex since early 2013. I am a MARKET RATE TENANT not rent stablized. I came here from a FEMA hotel, after losing my Long Beach, NY home to hurricane SANDY. My rent for a 1 bedroom was $3,500 and is now $3, 632.25. Do the math, that's $82,000 for a 2 year period of time. Since I moved into Gateway, I HAD ZERO HEAT..... NONE. Two winters and management did what they usually do...lies and band-aids. My first 3 days of my tenancy, I was forced to go back to the FEMA hotel as it... read more

Subject: Outrages electrical charges . We have been excessive overcharged for heating usage. My response to Gateways Plaza memo (Gateway price per kilowatts compare to Con Edison) The electrical increase in usage per apartment has been grossly unfair to all the tenants. The heating/air conditioning units are not energy efficient. In fact if you were to take a 1200 square foot apartment at getaway average $800 a month pro rate that to the cost of a small home you will be paying $10,000 a month. Does this seems righ... read more

I've lived here for a year. And now I'm planning to move. Here's why: ***My January electric bill for my 1 bedroom apartment was nearly $800*** My husband and I both work 70+ hours a week and we turn the heat off when we're not home. We keep the apartment at around 70 degrees when we're here. We sealed the windows in our apartment and there's STILL a draft coming in. It's ridiculous. Everyone else I've talked to in my building is facing the same issue. The building management knew this number was going to be a shock to us,... read more

I honestly dont even know where to begind with this "luxury" apartment building. I have lived in NYC for the past 12 years and have never dealt with half of the crap that I have with the Gateway! Even my 5 floor walk up apartments with no doormen/laundry etc were way better than this dump. Doormen- Ummmm you mean the insanely rude and unhelpful men who stand down stairs? They should probably fire them as they are incredibly useless and use that money to fix the windows in the apartments that let in an insane amount of air ... read more

I lived at Gateway for a year starting in October 2012. I have extremely mixed emotions about the place. Pros: -The units are huge compared to what your money will buy you in other areas -Having laundry in the building was very convenient -Being right along the esplanade was really nice -I never had to turn the heating on ever. This includes the entire winter. -I ran the air conditioning pretty much day and night for the entire summer (probably could've gotten by with the fan, but I wanted to be extra comfortable) and my ... read more
